About The Project

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Feed the Future – Kenya Investment Mechanism (KIM) is a five-year USAID project expiring August 2023 that will address two principal market failures:

  1. Insufficient quality consulting services (financial, transaction advisory, strategy and business performance) for agribusiness and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) seeking finance and investment and
  2. Limited scalability of financial products to support agribusinesses and SMEs.

To address these market failures, the project is co-creating a sustainable, market-based ecosystem of Business Advisory Service Providers and Financial Institutions to mobilize capital into these sectors. This project has subcontracted several Business Advisory Service Providers (BASPs), of which Afrifoods is one of the successful bidders.

Concurrently, KIM will lead policy reform efforts focused on removing barriers currently inhibiting large-scale investment into the target sectors, thereby unlocking further investment opportunities. The two objectives of KIM will result in an investment platform that mobilizes substantial capital from the public and private sectors and build partnerships between stakeholders in the financial ecosystem within Kenya, ultimately contributing to USAID’s overall goal of fostering broad-based, sustained and inclusive economic growth in Kenya.
